Uhlig, Alvin Arthur (February 12, 1909 - June 8, 2010)

 

Alvin Arthur Uhlig, age 101, of Abbotsford died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Golden Living Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford.

 

Alvin was born February 12, 1909, in Colby, the son of Gustav and Frieda (Teichert) Uhlig. 

 

He was married to Laura Klemetson on August 27, 1931, in Green Grove. 

 

He founded Uhlig Construction, building homes and commercial properties in and around the Abbotsford area. He was also co-owner of Abbotsford Lumber Company. 

 

Upon retiring in 1979, Alvin and Laura moved to their lake home on Pier Lake near Tripoli. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He and Laura also traveled extensively in their motor home around the United States. 

 

Alvin is survived by four children, Alfred (Vi), Abbotsford, Janet Hartl, Onalaska, Yvonne (Adrian) Strom, Cambridge, MN, and Robert (Sharee) of Dorchester; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura; and brothers, William, George, Emil, Gorman and Norman. 


A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Dorchester, with Mr. Wayne Lindberg presiding. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the hall. Burial will be at a later date at Pine Hill Cemetery, Curtiss.

 

Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona, is serving the family.
