The community was saddened Sunday when it learned of the sudden death of DuWayne Bulgrin, 51, who died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, about 24 hours after he had been stricken with a heart attack.  The attack came Saturday forenoon while working at the Badger Shooters Supply.  Later in the day he was moved to the hospital.

He was born in Nasonville on Feb. 2, 1906.  As a youth he attended grade school at Redville and graduated from the Owen High School.  He was associated with his father in the garage business serving as a mechanic for several years and later was in business for himself until 1942.

For three years he resided in California from 1931 to 1934.  During this period he served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church at Long Beach.

Of late years he had been employed as a fireman on a railroad operating on the iron ore range in northern Minnesota.

In 1934 he and Mary Smiley were united in marriage in a ceremony performed at Curtiss.  Ever since he has been a member of the Congregational Church at Curtiss and had been a member of the Owen Chapter of the Masonic Lodge for the past 25 years and since 1940 had been a member of the Consistory at Eau Claire.

Mourning his untimely passing are his wife, two sons, Burdell and Lyle, Owen; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bulgrin, Long Beach, Calif.; his grandmother, Mrs. Martha Christenson, a brother Burdell, and a sister, Lulu, (Mrs. Mayser),  all of Owen; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces, in addition to a host of friends who enjoyed his wholesome, congenial personality that was further reflected by his ever present warming smile.

Final rites were conducted at two o’clock Dec. 24 from the Congregational Church at Curtiss with Rev. James R. Stone officiating.  Rev. and Mrs. Duane Morschek rendered vocal selections with Mrs. Alfred Thompson accompanying at the organ.  Serving as pallbearers were Alfred Thompson, Neal Green, Galen Marcotte, Wilford Marcotte, Toivio Kallio, and Linwood Harris.  In charge of floral offerings were Mesdames Linwood Harris, Toivio Kallio, Alfred Thompson, Galen Marcotte and James Stene.
