Smith, Jane C. #2 (12 AUG 1950)

St. Anthony’s Catholic Church was the scene of the marriage of Miss Jane Carol Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Smith of route one, and John R. Bertz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bertz of this city (Loyal, Clark Co., Wis.), at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, 1950.

The Rev. Fr. Norbert King officiated at the double ring ceremony.

The bride, who was escorted to the altar by her father, wore a white eyelet batiste ballerina length gown, featuring a fitted bodice, Peter Pan collar and a full three-tiered skirt.  Her fingertip veil of Swiss illusion fell from a Juliet styled headdress of eyelet.

A garland styled bouquet of white roses, carnations and swansonia was carried by the bride.

Miss Genny Bertz, sister of the groom, was maid of honor.  She wore a lavender eyelet gown.  Lois Smith, the sister of the bride, and the only bridesmaid, wore a yellow gown of eyelet.  Both gowns were styled identically with fitted bodices, full skirts of ballerina length.  Bonnets of matching eyelet and net with white gloves completed their ensembles.  They carried garland bouquets of talisman and Johanna Hill roses, gladioli with yellow and lavender lacelon.

Ed Bertz Jr., brother of the groom, was best man, and Harry Smith, the bride’s brother, was groomsman.  David Bertz and James Hannan, cousins of the groom, ushered for the ceremony.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Smith wore a blue and white silk print with navy blue accessories, while the groom’s mother wore a light gray sheer crepe with black accessories.  Each wore a corsage of roses.

The wedding breakfast for the bridal party was served at the home of the groom’s parents immediately following the ceremony.

A dinner was served at noon in St. Anthony’s Church parlors.  Later a reception, including a buffet supper, was held at the home of the bride’s parents.  A dance was held in the evening at the Silver Dome Ballroom, near Neillsville.

Out of town guests included Mrs. Vivian Wilson and Marie Kadolph of Eau Claire, Mrs. Elizabeth Dalton of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Clarence Lakosky of Ojus, Fla., Norman McKindles of L’Anse, Mich. Arthur Schiller of Waupaca, Mr. and Mrs. Alois Stange and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rausch of Athens, Mrs. Russell Lyons and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dunn of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strathman and children, Robin and Bonny, of Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bogdonovich of Greenwood.

The bride and groom btoh are graduates of the Loyal High School with the class of 1946.

Mr. Bertz is a 1950 graduate from St. Norbert’s College at West DePere, with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in biology.

When the newlyweds return from a wedding trip in northern Wisconsin, they will reside in Eau Claire, where both are employed.

The Loyal Tribune extends to the young couple its wishes for happiness.
