Gengler, Mr./Mrs. Anton (50th Anniv. - 26 Apr. 1959)

 

Mr. and Mrs. Anton Gengler began their observance of their golden wedding anniversary by attending the 8:00 o’clock mass Sunday morning at St. Bernard’s Catholic church. With them were all of the children and 34 of their 40 grand children. Mrs. Elizabeth (Rix) May and Nick Gengler, attendants at the marriage 50 years ago, stood beside them Sunday as they repeated their marriage vows, with the Rev. Raymond Schulz officiating.

 

They were married April 19, 1909, at St. Bernard’s Catholic church, Thorp.

 

A dinner was served at noon in the Knights of Columbus hall at Medford. To about 80 relatives and close friends. The table was beautifully decorated with gold pom pons, a decorated cake and May flowers, gathered in the woods by the grand children.

 

The Rev. Raymond Schulz said grace and gave a short talk. Frank Nikolay was master of ceremonies and each of the children responded to the toasts.

 

In the afternoon, about 300 persons called at the open house to offer congratulations. Friends and relatives came from West Bend, Stanley, Thorp,

Medford, Plover, Wisconsin Rapids, Molitor, Colby and Abbotsford.

 

The honored couple received many beautiful gifts on the occasion.

 

Mrs. Gengler, was born Catherine Bodewin, Sept. 25, 1879 at Dacada, Wisconsin, and Mr. Gengler was born near Port Washington, Dec. 19, 1884.

 

The Genglers operated a farm in the town of Molitor for a number of years. Mr. Gengler was also in the bulk oil business in Medford and for a 10 year period, the family lived at Rice Lake and then returned to Medford.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Gengler have lived in Abbotsford the past seven years. He is employed by the Marathon-Clark Cooperative Dairy Association.

 

The Genglers have seven children; Mrs. Catherine Neder, Mooseheart, Ill.; Mrs. Theresa Zeman, Abbotsford; Anthony and Mathew Gengler and Mrs. Walter (Isabel) Sigmund, town of Molitor; Eugene, West Bend; Mrs. Edwin (Dolores) Sigmund, Wisconsin Rapids.

 

Mrs. Gengler has one brother, Joe Bodewin, of Medford and Mr. Gengler has two brothers, Nick, of Medford; and Joe, of Thorp.
