Harrop, Sherman (15 Mar. 1883 - 28 Aug. 1959)

 

Funeral services for J. Sherman Harrop, who died unexpectedly at the age of 76, of a blood clot at his home, Friday evening, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the First Presbyterian church. The Rev. Lawrence Faivre officiated. Burial was made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were Richard Brown, L. F. Loucks, Morris Mantor, Harold Merwin, Howard Merwin and Lawrence Peterson.

 

Mr. Harrop was born March 15, 1883 in Iowa county, and received his education in Mazomanie. When he was a young man, he homesteaded a place in the state of Oregon.

 

His marriage to the former Trena Arneson took place at Benton, Wis., April 16, 1913. For a few years, they lived in the state of Washington where he operated a donkey engine in logging operations.

 

They came to the town of Holton in 1917 and have lived here since then. Mr. Harrop served on the district school board and was a member of the First Presbyterian church.

 

Surviving him are his widow, two sons, Claire, Madison; Jack, at home; (two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Doris) Weitzman, Stetsonville; Mrs. Elmer (Evelyn) Haas, Colby; five grand children; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Wooldridge, Arena, Wis.; and a brother, Earl, of Whitewater, Wis.

 

Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wooldridge, Donald and Merton, Harrop, Arena; Earl Harron, Whitewater; Mrs. Naomi Arneson, Garfield Arneson, Ellen Arneson and Will Arneson, Braneveld, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Platteter, Richland Center; Mrs. Lyle Voss, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Studee and family and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Platteter, Madison.
