Timm, Verna (Marriage - 26 Aug. 1960)

Miss Verna Timm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin H. Timm of Unity, rt. 1, and Orville Barkow, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Barkow, Sr., Abbotsford, rt. 1, exchanged marriage vows Saturday afternoon, Aug. 26. The double ring service was read at 2 o’clock by the Rev. Frederick Kempfer in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Milan, before the altar decorated with large baskets of gladioli and mixed flowers. White ribbon bows marked the pews where the guests were seated.

Mrs. Myers of Edgar played nuptial music before and after the ceremony, and during the ceremony, sang "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord’s Prayer." Mrs. Barkow played the accompaniment.

The bride appeared in a ballerina length gown of white lace designed with long tapered sleeves and a scalloped neck line trimmed with seed pearls. Pearls were also used in the headpiece which held her finger tip veil. She carried a white Bible on which was an arrangement of red and white garnette roses and streamers of white satin ribbon.

Attendants at the wedding included Mrs. Francis Elden of Athens as matron of honor; Miss Florence Bohl of Minneapolis, cousin of the groom; Miss Nelda Timm of Unity, sister of the bride, as bridesmaids, and Miss Lori Ann Elden as flower girl.

Francis Elden was best man for his cousin; John Mallin, Clint Schoeneman and Wayne Timm of Unity and Jack Tolverson of Wausau were the groom’s attendants. Randall Elden was ring bearer.

The matron of honor wore a ballerina length dress of flowered nylon over orchid taffeta, accented by a white cummerbund which ended in a bustle.

The bridesmaid wore a green chiffon cummerbund and streamers that extended from the back of the neckline.

The orchid and green colors were repeated in their head pieces and the ribbons and carnations which were used in their fan shaped bouquets.

The flower girl wore a yellow taffeta dress with yellow net overskirt and a matching taffeta and net bonnet. Her dress featured a large taffeta bow in the back.

About 150 guests attended the reception and supper at Don Colby’s in Unity. A wedding dance was held at the Trianon Ballroom.

Guests came from Davenport, Ia., Athens, Milan, Abbotsford, Unity, Stevens Point, Merrill, Wausau and Eau Claire.

The new Mr. and Mrs. Barkow will make their home in rural Colby where he operates a farm.
