Thompson, Dorothy E. (30 JUN 1951)

St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville, was the scene of a double ring ceremony at 9 a.m., Saturday, June 30, 1951, when Miss Dorothy Edith Thompson of Neillsville, was given in marriage by her father, to David Bruce Bertz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Bertz of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.).  The Rev. John J. Pritzl officiated at the nuptial mass.

The bride wore a gown of white marquisette over satin, fashioned with a drop shoulder effect, and a lace bertha collar, embroidered with seed pearls and caught at the shoulder with lily of the valley.  Self-covered buttons were used at the back closing of the bodice and at the wrists where the long sleeves tapered to points.  Her fingertip veil fell from a tiara of net trimmed with sequins and seed pearls.  The full skirt and train were styled with lace inserts.  Her shower bouquet was of white gladioli and swansonia with white streamers.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Ed Bogdonovich of Greenwood, a sister of the groom.  The bridesmaid was Miss Carol Thompson, Neillsville, a sister of the bride.  The matron of honor wore a gown of white frosted organdy over green taffeta, and the bridesmaid wore a gown of the same material over orchid.  Both gowns were fashioned with Peter Pan collars, self-covered buttons, and sashes.  Both attendants wore white net coronets and white frosted organdy gauntlets.  The matron of honor’s streamers from her bouquet of peach colored gladioli were green as was her sash.  The bridesmaid’s sash and streamers were orchid.  Her flowers were pink gladioli.

Paula Kay Bertz, Loyal, niece of the groom, was the flower girl in her sleeveless yellow organdy with lace trimmed neckline and a sash finished in a large bow.  Michael Bushnell, Marshfield, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer.

Ed Bogdonovich, Greenwood, was best man, and Gerald Luchterhand, Spencer, was groomsman.  Robert bertz, brother of the groom, and Norman Thompson, brother of the bride, were ushers.

A wedding breakfast for the bridal party was served at the home of the bride’s parents.  Dinner was also served there to sixty guests, and friends were greeted there at an afternoon reception.

The bride, a Neillsville High School graduate, class of 1950, is secretary to Attorney John M. Peterson, Neillsville.  The groom was graduated from the Loyal High School, 1947, and is now with the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Sheridan, Ill.

After their wedding trip in northern Wisconsin, the bride will resume her work and will reside with her parents.  The groom will return to army duties at Fort Sheridan.

Wedding guests were from Ann Arbor, Mich., Neillsville, Loyal, Fall Creek, Greenwood, Marshfield, Abbotsford, Granton, Merrillan, Eau Claire, Spencer, and Hillsboro.
