Haines, Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. (Golden - 8 September 1959)

Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Haines celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday with Open house at their home at 108 West First Street in Neillsville.  On Sunday their six children and 19 grandchildren observed the anniversary as a family at the Haines’ home.

Gene Helgeson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Helgeson of Fennimore and Robert D. Haines, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Haines of Montfort, were married at the home of the bride’s parents at 11 a.m. September 8, 1909. Attendants were Anna (Helgeson) Nelson and John Bowden.

Following the marriage the newlyweds went to farming near Montfort, where they remained until 1920, when they moved to Clark County. They located on the Fred Reidel farm in the Town of Grant, where they lived until 1953.  Then they moved to Neillsville.

Mr. Haines served from 10 to 12 years on the school board in Wild Rose District, Town of Grant, and after coming to Neillsville they became members of the Methodist Church.

"We have experienced good health and good fortune," said Mrs. Haines, relating that they had experienced nothing worse than a drought in 1910 while still living near Montfort.

Attending the observance on Sunday and remaining for the open house Tuesday were all six children and their families: Mr. and Mrs. Francis Haines and four children, of the Town of Grant; H. Glenn Haines, Town of Grant; Mr. (Missing names of family members) their first child died in infancy.

The following attended from out of the city: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Winkler, Mrs. Edna Jahnke, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helm, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Todd, Mrs. Harold Scharf, Mrs. Douglas Crandall, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gardner and family, all of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sherren, Mr. and Mrs. George Braun, Mrs. Harry Liebzeit, Mrs. Clara Liebzeit, Mr. and Mrs. Arvin Liebzeit, all of Greenwood; Mrs. Alex Goeser of Chilton; Mr. and Mrs. Milford Rowe, Mr. and Mrs. (the rest of the names are missing.)

Stan, by checking for names in various Opelt obits, I find this next one is definitely an Opelt Reunion, even though it was called Families Reunion at Schuster Park.
