Thorp, Wisconsin Fire Association (Reorganization - 1 Mar. 1894)

A very interesting and profitable meeting was held on Tuesday evening last at the engine rooms, the object of the meeting being the reorganization of the Thorp Fire Association. A new company was formed according to the rules laid down in a village ordinance and the following officers were elected: Chief, Jos. Sheblak; Assistant Chief, Jas. Connors; 2nd Assistant, E. L. Snyder; secretary, C. S. Lusk; treasurer, Aug. Cirkel.

A committee was appointed to draft by-laws, etc., for adoption at next regular meeting to be held Thursday evening March 8.  All present were enthusiastic in the matter of water works for the village and it was voted to present a resolution to the village board asking that body to call an election for the purpose of raising a sufficient amount of money by borrowing some from the state treasurer to put in a complete system.  The mater will be considered by the board at their regular meeting on Monday evening next.

The great and constantly increasing necessity for a supply of water for use at fires must be apparent to all and we sincerely hope that all citizens will comprehend the constant danger of the destruction by fire of the village.  A plentiful supply of water would prove far more beneficial than a new railroad and insure the general prosperity of the village a hundred-fold.  Let us have waterworks.
