Buk, Michael "Mike" (1 September 1914 - 3 November 2010)

Michael (Mike) Buk, 96, formerly of Lublin, WI, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the home of his niece, Barb and Don Markham.  Mike had lived with them the past 3 ½ years.

Mike was born on September 1, 1914, in Chicago, IL.  He moved to Lublin, WI when he was a year old and lived on the family farm until he was 92, when he moved to Illinois for a few years.

During his early years, Mike worked the family farm, CCC camps during the war, and later worked as a carpenter.  He was an avid fisherman, trapper, hunter and ginseng picker.  Over the years, he also became quite the wood carver, including his infamous Wisconsin mosquito.  One of the best things about his carvings was the fact that they showed his personality and sense of humor along with his skill.  Mike will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  We will all miss the many, many stories of his adventures.

Mike is survived by his nephew, Philip Kalinowski, California; nieces: Paula Madiar, Barb (Don) Markham, and great-niece Leata (Joe) Lawniczak, all of Illinois; two great nieces: Sherry and Robin of Texas; and many great-great-nieces and nephews in Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin.  Mike was preceded in death by his father and mother, Peter and Katherine (Sevsen) Buk; brothers: Stanley (Bess) Buck, and John Buk; sisters: Mae Spang, Frances (Ted) Huber, and Jean (Kelly) Kalinowski; nephew, Dan Huber; and niece, Lori Webster.

Be at peace Uncle Mike. - Your spiritual life has just begun. - There will be a time when we meet again. - Meanwhile, I’ll say Amen.

Services were held at Gilman Funeral Home on Saturday, November 6, at 2 p.m.

Friends and family called from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.  Gilman Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.
