Gronek, Sophie #3 (29 JUN 1957)

Miss Sophie Gronek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gronek of Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), and Eddie Filipek, son of Mrs. Catherine Price of Chicago, Ill., were united in marriage at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Chicago on Saturday, June 29, 1957, at 10 o’clock in the morning by Father Weber.  The altar was decorated with gladiolas and the aisles with flowered arches.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, carried a bouquet of white carnations to the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Altar.

The bride chose a sequin Sabina neckline dress made of silk illusion with a bustle back and a chapel length train.  Her veil was of French illusion and her Juliet headpiece was made of sequins and pearls matching her dress.  She carried a bouquet of white orchids and roses with small streamers of ribbon.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Helen Polak, sister of the bride, attired in an all blue strapless dress of nylon chiffon.  She wore a sweetheart headpiece.  The bridesmaids wore dresses and headpieces identical to the maid of honor.  Their bouquets were of yellow roses with blue satin ribbons.  They wore necklaces of okalite, gifts of the bride.  Bridesmaids were Marlene Ciolkosz, Chicago, cousin of the bride, Frances Smigla, Chicago, friend of the bride, and Mrs. Loretta Burzynski, sister of the groom.

Flower girls were Frances Gronek, godchild and niece of the bride, and Bonnie Flynn, niece of the groom, both of Chicago.  They wore blue nylon chiffon dresses.  Their headpieces were identical to the bridesmaids and they carried baskets of yellow roses and wore necklaces of Okalite, gifts of the bride.  The miniature bride was Gail Burzynski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Burzynski, Chicago.  She wore a white dress and veil and carried a bouquet of flowers and wore a cross, a gift from the bride.

The miniature groom, George Burzynski, wore a tuxedo identical to the groomsmen.  His gift was a miniature set from the groom.  The groom wore midnight blue trousers and a white dinner jacket and wore a flowered white boutonniere.  The groomsmen were dressed identical to the groom.

The best man was Bernard Sawicki.  Attending the groom were Edward Gronek, brother of the bride, Stanley Dobbin and Harry Burzynski, brother-in-law of the groom.  Their tie pins and cuff links were gifts from the groom.

The bride’s mother wore a pink rayon crepe dress.  The groom’s mother wore pink and white brocaded shanton dress.  They both wore orchid corsages.  The bride’s father wore a midnight blue tuxedo.  A 12 o’clock breakfast was for the immediate family and  a reception at 6 o’clock for 300 guests at the S. and S. Hall at Chicago.  The music was furnished by Casey and His Orchestra.

Following their honeymoon they will make their home at Chicago, where they are both employed.

Those attending the wedding were from Detroit, Michigan, Minneapolis, Streator, Lyns, Chicago, Ill., Thorp, Withee, Curtiss and Stanley, Wis.
