Dorothy W. Kangas, 90, of Abbotsford, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 26, 2010, Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Medford.

She was born on November 24, 1920 in Price County, the daughter of Frank and Martha Rhody Martin.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Eino Kangas on April 15, 1944, in Ogema. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1992. Together they farmed in Ogema for many years before selling the farm in 1965 and moving to Abbotsford. She enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends at Hardee’s, was famous for her embroidery, had a passion for flowers, liked to bake for her family, especially molasses cookies and also dining out with family and friends. Dorothy was a life-long church member, most recently with Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. She especially loved her family and her apartment (palace as she called it).

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Shirley (David) Williams, Medford, Marilyn (Duane) Meyers, Colby, Richard Kangas, Thorp, and David Kangas, Las Vegas, Nev.; 10 grandchildren, Tammy Damm, Scott Williams, Michael (Becky) Williams, Tracy (Jeff) Pernsteiner, and Shannon (Trisha) Williams all of Medford; Ronald (Heather) Meyers, Prior Lake, Minn., Aaron (Sara) Meyers, Wausau, Darin (Dee) Meyers, Cottage Grove, Minn., Troy (Jaimie) Meyers, Mason City, Iowa, and Michelle (Ryan) Boller, Dorchester; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, Brayden Larson; her brother, Francis (Lillie Bell) Martin, Pittsville; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eino and her great-grandson, Trevor Lee Williams; seven brothers and sisters, Archie, Harry, Eddie and Charles Martin, Marion Ozar, Caroline Krecklow and Gloria Kline.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford with Rev. Dr. Paul Hunsicker officiating.  Burial will be held in the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 11:00 a.m. until time services Wednesday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is serving the family.
