Lovstad, Doris E. (6 February 1920 - 4 January 2011)

Doris E. Lovstad, 90, of Marshfield Care Center died peacefully with her family by her side Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Doris was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Monroe County, the daughter of Magnus and Tena (Johnson) Larson. She attended school in the Cashton and Westby public schools.  Doris married Carsten T. Lovstad July 30, 1938, in Westby.  He passed away Sept. 2, 1986.

Doris was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chili, the Ladies Aid and also the Chili Community Women’s Club. She loved being a homemaker, tending to her flowers and watching the birds at the feeder, especially cardinals.  Doris enjoyed making many quilts for her family and with the ladies at church.  She celebrated her Norwegian heritage with annual Lutefisk dinners, making Lefse and other Norwegian treats.

Her family fondly remembers spending Christmas Eve at Grandma and Grandpa Lovstad’s house. She will be remembered for her delicious sugar cookies, homemade doughnuts and a fresh pot of coffee on the stove whenever someone dropped in to visit.

Doris is lovingly survived by her five children, Sonja (Byrl) Dahl, Chili, Kenneth (Karen) Lovstad, Chili, Christine (Bill) Cliver, Marshfield, Karl (Judy) Lovstad, Chili, and Richard (Ruth) Lovstad, Wisconsin Dells.  Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren as well as many other family and friends.  She will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Magnus and Tena; her husband, Carsten; an infant son; two brothers, Vernon and Gilman Larson; and her son-in-law, Ronald Selk.

A celebration of Doris’ life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church in Chili with Rev. Terry Schneider officiating.  A time of visitation was held from 10 a.m. until services at the church Saturday.  Committal services took place at Yolo Cemetery, Chili.  Honorary pallbearers were her six grandsons: Steve and Jeff Selk, Tom and Brian Cliver, and Ken and Michael Lovstad.

Special thanks to Marshfield Care Center, St. Joseph’s Critical Care Unit and 5-North for the exceptional care she received.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Chili.
