Cook, Fern Betty (Marriage - 19 June 1954)

Speaking their vows in St. Wenceslaus Church, Milwaukee, before the Rev. W. J. Kozak, Miss Fern Betty Cook and Reuben Joseph Switlick, Milwaukee, were united in marriage at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 1954.

The bride, formerly of Loyal, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cook, Loyal, and the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Switlick, Athens.

Bouquets of white gladioli and carnations decorated the altar.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.  She wore an ivory satin gown styled with a fitted bodice, and seed pearls accentuated the sweetheart neckline. The skirt was full and formed the chapel length train. A cornet of net and pearls held her fingertip veil which was appliquéd in Venice lace. She carried a bouquet of two white orchids and stephanotis with white streamers.

Attendants were the groom’s cousin, Mrs. Hattie Georgsan as matron of honor attired in white, the bridesmaid Miss Patricia Murphy wore pale yellow.  Their gowns were nylon net over taffeta. They carried colonial bouquets of white carnations and yellow roses.

Alphonse Switlick, a brother of the groom served as bestman and his cousin, Bernard Switlick, was groomsman.  Completing the wedding party was little Marie Murphy as flower girl. She wore a yellow dress styled similar to the bridal aides and carried a bouquet of yellow roses and white carnations.

Mrs. Cook viewed her daughter’s wedding in a powder blue suit with white accessories and the groom’s mother wore a wine crepe frock with navy accessories.  Each wore a corsage of white roses and carnations tied with a silver ribbon.

A 1 o’clock luncheon was held at the parish hall.  The couple will make their home in Milwaukee.

Out of town guests were from Loyal, Marion, Athens, Waukesha; Evanston and Chicago, Ill. and Arlington, Va.
