Scheer, Sophie  (01 JAN 1876-19 JAN 1953)

 

Mrs. John Scheer, 77, of Unity, died in Milwaukee at 4 p.m., Jan. 19, 1933. A diabetic condition caused her death.

 

She was born in Outagamie County, Jan. 1, 1876. Her maiden name was Sophie Witt. She was married to John Scheer at Ellington Church, Outagamie County, April 19, 1900.

 

In 1900 the Scheers moved to a farm in Clark County where they lived until 1949. For the past four years they have lived in Unity.

 

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Green Grove since 1901. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society of that church for 35 years. Funeral services were there January 23 and burial was in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Richard Scholz of Spencer officiated.

 

Mrs. Scheer is survived by her husband and seven children, Mrs. Joe (Lorinda) Schultz, Loyal; Mrs. Harvey (Hilda) Wittinger, Curtiss; Mrs. Walter (Alma) Henn, and Mrs. Leonard (Irma) Leamanczyk, Milwaukee; Mrs. Neil (Linda) Oestreich, Loyal; Orland Scheer, Spencer; and Merlin Scheer, California; by 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. John Bohl and Mrs. Bill Rhiel of Appleton, and Miss Emma Witt, Milwaukee, and one brother Fred Witt, Loyal, survive Mrs. Scheer.

 

One son, a daughter, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

 

Pallbearers were Donald Schultz, Vern Wittlinger, Rueben Zimmerman, Wayne Scheer, Alan Stange, and Milton Henn, all grandsons of the deceased.

 

Serving as flower bearers were Pearl Wittlinger, Joanne Scheer, Jean Stange and Bette Henn. The Church choir sang "Rock of Ages" "Abide With Me", and "Nearer My God To Thee". Mrs. Paul Woik accompanied at the organ.

 

Out of town people attending were from Milwaukee, Appleton, Eau Claire, Stanley, Gilman, Loyal, Spencer and Abbotsford.
