Meske, Mr./Mrs. Fred (Gold - 11 DEC 1962)

 

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meske was celebrated Sunday, Sept. 2, 1962, and began with a special prayer during the 10:00 o’clock service at Christ Lutheran Church offered by the Rev. F. H. Sprengler.  The honored couple is both members of the congregation.

 

About 70 guests joined them at a turkey dinner given and served by the Ladies’ Aid in the churching dining room.  Mrs. Meske is a member.

 

Gold candies and flowers of the season were used in the table decorations and corsages of yellow roses and boutonnieres of white carnations, were worn by the couple and close relatives.

 

Beginning at 2:30, open house was held throughout the afternoon and evening at the home of their only son, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Meske.  About 200 persons attended.

 

The honored couple received many gifts and a purse of money.

 

Miss Vera Johnson and  Fred Meske were married Dec. 11, 1912.  The early observance of the date was planned to enable Mrs. Meske’s 87 years old aunt and sponsor, Mrs. Emma Pohlman of Waukesha and Mrs. And Mrs. Peter Johnson, her uncle of Waukesha, to attend.  Mr. Johnson will be 93 years old next month.

 

Fred Meske, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meske, was born in the town of Holton, July 6, 1888.  He was raised in the town of Holton and attended the Rosedale School.  He armed in the area until his retirement 14 years ago.

 

Mrs. Meske, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, was born in the town of Neshota in Waukesha County April 21, 1893.  At the age of 10, the family moved to this area and Mrs. Meske completed her education at the Abbotsford schools.

 

Their marriage took place at the home of the bride’s parents and was performed by the Rev. F. Moecker.

 

The couple had one son, Milton, and one daughter, Mrs. Joyce Mizell, who died Sept. 5, 1952.  They have six grandchildren.

 

Mrs. Meske has three brothers, Willard Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; Eugene Johnson, Holcomb, Wis.; and Arthur Johnson of Duluth, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. Olaf Borgemoen of Chelsea.

 

Mr. Meske had only one sister, who is deceased.

 

Among the guests here for the occasion were Mrs. Emma Pohlman and daughter, Margaret, and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Johnson, Waukesha; Mrs. Mathilda Brah and daughters, Esther and Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. George Meyers and Miss Frieda Weideman, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Knoth, Mrs. Olga Komnik, Mrs. Ida Gelthorp, Bloomington, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Agaard Lambert, Virginia, Minn.; Mrs. Frieda Kirstowsky, Saginaw, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Singer and Rona Lee, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Krause, Chelsea; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kuester, Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kauschinger and Mrs. Harel Johnson, Oshkosh; Steve Kovacs and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Erickson, Catawba; Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Bartz and two sons, Merrill; Mr. and Mrs. Salzman, Wausau; and friends from Abbotsford Curtiss, Dorchester and Colby.
