Ludeman, Herbert Francis ( 18 February 1930 - 26 March 2011) With Flag

 

Herbert Francis Ludeman, 81, of rural Merrillan died Saturday March 26, 2011.  He was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Neenah to Francis and Emma (Langner) Ludeman.  He was confirmed Oct. 6, 1946, at Grace Lutheran Church in Alma Center.  Herb attended school at the South Alma School and graduated from Hixton Union Free High School in 1947.  He attended the Dairy Short Course at the University of Wisconsin in Madison before enlisting in the U. S. Army in 1948.  Herb also served in the National Guard for six years.  Herb returned to the area in 1950, and he and his brother ran the South Alma Cheese Factory until 1988 when they sold it to Wisconsin Dairies, now known as Foremost Foods. Herb married Nona J. Will July 25, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild.

 

Herb was a supporter of many local organizations over the years.  Important to him were area youth hockey teams, trap shooting teams and the Hatfield Fire Department.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 200 in Black River Falls.  Herb enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, fishing, boating and the outdoors.  Most important in his life was his family.

 

Herb is survived by his wife, Nona, one son Scott Herbert (Amy) Ludeman of Frisco, TX, and their children: Abigail, Amanda, and Alexis; one daughter Susan Jean (Ron) Garrison of Tomahawk and their children: Emily and Madeline; one brother, Harold H. Ludeman of Black River Falls and one sister Marguerite Kleba of Hixton and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Virginia Ludeman and a brother-in-law Earl Kleba.

 

Funeral services were held at noon Tuesday March 29, 2011, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Black River Falls. The Rev. Eric Bakken officiated. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls. Friends were invited to call at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

 

The Torgerson Funeral Home, 715-284-4321, is in charge of the arrangements.

 

Memorials may be directed to the Hatfield Fire Department and Evangelical Lutheran Church of Black River Falls.
