Johnson, Fred #2 (5 APR 1899 - 11 NOV 1959)

 

Friends and relatives gathered at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock when they paid their final respects to Fred Lars Johnson, a pioneer resident of this community.  Mr. Johnson died suddenly Wednesday evening at Christopherson School, near Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where his wife teaches and they had bone to attend a PTA meeting.  He suffered a heart attack as they were about ready to leave for home.  The Rev. Bryl Knudsen officiated at the final rites with burial being made in the parish cemetery.

 

Serving as pallbearers were Harold Parker, Charles Knaack Jr., Theodore Jensen, Karl Jensen, Arnold Eppers and William Warns.

 

Fred Johnson, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John K. Johnson, was born April 5, 1899 in Brooklyn, N.Y.  As a youngster of four years of age he accompanied his parents to Wisconsin, and for the most of his life was a resident of the Withee community.  The past 29 years he farmed one miles south and a quarter mile west of the village with the exception of there years, from 1942 - 1945, when he was employed in Chicago, Ill.

 

He was a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church and the I.O.O.F. of Withee.

 

His passing is mourned by his wife, the former Jessie Mae Peterson,  whom he married on July 25, 1929, at West Allis, Wis.; a son, Frederic Elliot of La Crosse; one daughter, Mrs. R. B. (Eileen) Calkins of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. B. (Alma) Myerson and Mrs. F. (Clara) Grecco, both of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Christ Olaf of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, in addition to many other relatives and friends.

 

Those from away attending the services included Mr. and Mrs. Frederic Johnson, three sons and daughter of La Cross; Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Calkins and three daughters of st. Paul; Mrs. Susan Peterson and daughter, Ann, and Mrs. Myrtle Munson of Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Lee J. Peterson and family of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. B. Myerson, Mrs. Robert Gilbert, Mrs. William Purvis and Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Jensen, Chicago, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Christ Johnson of Chippewa Falls.
