Petersen, Eveline B. (4 APR 1942)

(From Oshkosh Northwestern)

Candlelight, white cut flowers, palms and ferns formed the setting for the marriage of Miss Eveline B. Petersen, daughter of N.J. Petersen of this city, and Vernon L. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), Saturday evening at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.  The Rev. H. Irving Petersen performed the ceremony.

Preceding the bride to the altar were her five attendants, gowned in white and carrying flowers of contrasting red.  Mrs. Thor Repsholdt was her sisters matron of honor.  Miss Frances Petersen was her sister’s maid of honor,a nd Miss Jacqueline Bettin, the bride’s niece, was bridesmaid.  The dresses were on princess lines, with sweetheart necklines, shirred sleeves and full skirts.  They carried colonial bouquets of red carnations and white sweet peas.

Little Shelby Jean smith, sister of the bridegroom, and Virginia Miller, niece of the bride, were flower girls.  They were dressed in identical long white taffeta gowns, fashioned with short puffed sleeves, shirred necklines and tiered skirts.  Their flowers were small bouquets, duplicates of those of the older attendants.

Walking with her father, the bride wore a heavy ivory satin and rosepoint lace gown of empress style.  Her fingertip veil was held with a coronet of ivory satin and orange blossoms.  Her flowers were a cascade of white roses and sweet peas.

Robert Smith attended his brother as best man and Chris Miller and Ted Repsholdt were ushers.

Mrs. Walter Smith, mother of the bridegroom, wore navy with white and navy accessories.  Mrs. George Chambers, grandmother of the bridegroom, was in black.  Their corsages were white roses and sweet peas.

Organ selections were played by Mrs. Carice Griffith, who also played the traditional wedding music.  Miss Mildred Marx sang two numbers.  There was a reception immediately after the ceremony in the church parlors.

Mrs. Smith teaches at the South Park Junior High School and Mr. Smith is the manager of the Argyle Canning Factory at Argyle, Wis., where the couple will reside after June.

Out of town guests present included Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, Geraldine, Robert and Shelby Jean, Mrs. George Chambers, Humbird; Virgil Denk, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Petersen and son David and Robert, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Miller and daughter Virginia, and Mrs. Elmer Basserman, Chicago; Ted Repsholdt, Blair, Neb.; and Thor Repsholdt of Wis. Dells.

The bride had been feted at many showers, hostesses being Mrs. Pearl Bettin, Mrs. Walter Smith, Miss Marie Mathiesen, Miss Organda C. Bangsberg, Mrs. Roy Miller, and Mrs. Edward Hansen.
