Lenander, Susan C. (Ristola) (August 17, 1953 - May 25, 2011)

 

Susan C. Lenander, 57, of Colby, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.


Funeral services for Susan will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Burial will be in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.


Visitation with family and friends will be on Tuesday at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, from 11:30 a.m. until time of services.


Susan was born on August 17, 1953, in Medford, to Eino and Bernice (Kennow) Ristola Sr.

 

She was a 1971 graduate of Huron High School in South Dakota. Susan worked at the Beadle County Extension Center as a home economist in Heron, South Dakota and as a CNA and cook at the White Care Center in White, South Dakota.

 

Susan married Douglas Lenander on October 27, 1990, in Toronto, South Dakota. They moved to Curtiss in 1991 working at Abbyland Pork Plant as a secretary until 1993 when she began to cook at various places throughout the area, moving to Colby in 2001.


Susan enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, reading, listening to music, her pets and spending time with her family.


She is survived by her husband, Douglas Lenander of Colby; daughters, Angela (Mike) Oswalt of Colby and Samantha Lenander of Colby; grandson, Jonathan Oswalt of Colby; sister, Carolyn (Ronald) Brossow of Colby; and aunt, Anna Ristola of Abbotsford.


Susan is preceded in death by her father, Eino Ristola Sr. Oct. 29, 1957, mother Bernice Ristola, May 15, 1991; first husband, Wilbur DeGeest, July 23, 1988; brothers, Eino Ristola Jr., June 12, 1993, David Ristola, Sept. 19, 2009; and grand-daughter, Elizabeth Palmer on Nov. 19, 1991.
