Zerbel, Ida A. (20 NOV 1883 - 29 JUL 1947)

Miss Ida Zerbel met instant death shortly before 11 o’clock Tuesday forenoon when she was struck by an extra freight on the crossing at the cannery.  Miss Zerbel was employed at the cannery and was hurrying to work, as she had been detained a short while before leaving her restaurant.  It is reported that several at the plant saw the accident but none know just what happened that she attempted to cross the track in front of the train.  The impact threw her clear of the tracks.  Her right arm and shoulder were marked.  The coroner was notified but it is reported no inquest will be held.  Railway officials are investigating.

Miss Zerbel had been employed at the cannery during the summer pack several seasons, and had taken the same route each day at about the same hour as she took Tuesday morning, when this sad accident occurred.

The remains were taken to a mortuary at Black River Falls to await burial services, which are to be held at 10 o’clock Friday forenoon, at the Evangelical and Reformed Church, Rev. Hohmann officiating.  Following the services at the church here, the cortege will proceed to Denzer, in Sauk County, where a second church service will be held.  Burial will be in the family lot in the Denzer Cemetery.
