Mayenschein, Leland Dale (28 May 1938 - 16 July 2011) With Flag

 

Leland D. Mayenschein, age 73, of Rock Dam, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield, on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday July 22, 2011, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated.  Burial of cremains took place at Butler Cemetery, in the Town of Butler. Visitation was held at the church, on Friday, from 9 a.m. until time of service.

 

Leland Dale Mayenschein was born on May 28, 1938, in the Town of Butler, Clark County, WI, the son of Curtis and Laura (Butler) Mayenschein.  He was raised on the family farm, received his education in rural country schools, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1956.  After high school, Leland was drafted into the U. S. Army and served with the Rangers until his honorable discharge in 1962. 

 

He was united in marriage on August 5, 1961, to Sharon McConnell at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood.  They later divorced.  He lived in Milwaukee and worked for Allen-Bradley for 36 years, and also as a mechanic at Sears for 20+ years, until retiring in 1995.  After retiring, Leland moved to Rock Dam and was united in marriage to Judith Bauer at St. Hedwig’s Chapel in Thorp, on June 12, 1999. He resided at Rock Dam until his death.

 

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church.  Leland had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, gardening, birds, building bird houses, planting trees and cooking.  He also loved children, sports, and coaching Little League baseball for many years.

 

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Judy, of Rock Dam; three children: Mark (Roseanne) Mayenschein of Dousman, Paul (Jennifer) of Mukwonago, and Lynn (Chris) Harrington of Greenfield; six step-children: Jeanette (Joe) Dougherty of Jupiter, FL, Charlene (John) Abramczak of Thorp, Patrick (Darlene) Bauer of Thorp, Michelle (Greg) Turenne of Thorp, Suzanne (Jamis) Anderson of Thorp, and Kristin (Patrick) Hempleman of Thorp; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandson; two brothers; Norman (Rita) Mayenschein of Greenwood, and David (Marilyn) Mayenschein of Thorp; three sisters: Marlys (Frank) Andruszkiewicz of Thorp, Mary Lynn (Matt) Grajkowski of Thorp, and Carol (Doug) Bottlemy of Owen; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
