Humbird (21 March 1963)

 

Mrs. Alvin Bryner, Mrs. Jean Harden and John Bryner attended the funeral of Mrs. Elcena Hart in Neillsville, Tuesday.

 

Among the flu victims last week were the Edmond Noyes family, Archie Kirby, Mrs. Mildred Staves, the Martin family, the Leo Janke family, and the Wallace family is quite sick, also Mrs. Alma Zimmerman.

 

Henry Laffe is not so well and was absent from the store Saturday and Monday.  He must take it easy for awhile.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sheffer were in La Crosse Tuesday to attend the funeral of her uncle, Clarence Thompson, who had died Friday of a heart attack.

 

The Atomic 4-H Workers enjoyed a roller skating party at Hatfield Friday night.  It was a real gala occasion, with gifts and prizes. Those who took the young people to Hatfield were the Duerkops, the Walter Shaffers, Mrs. Lois Anderson, Vern Kitlinger and Frank Krosinski. The next regular meeting will be held March 23, at 8 p.m. in the Humbird Grade School.  This progressive club has a membership of 40, which speaks well for its leaders.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice are now in their home here and hope to be permanently.  Mr. Fitzmaurice has retired from his work in Beloit and hope to take life a bit easier and be with his family.

 

The Happy Hour Homemaker Club will meet today (Thursday) at the Elmer Duerkop home.  Mrs. Rudy Aeschbacher and Mrs. Willard Stanley will give the lesson on, "Lawn Beauty."

 

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gorst last Thursday attended the funeral of their cousins, the Woods family, who lost their lives in the accident at Tunnel City, at Tomah. The Woods were formerly from Warrens.

 

Gordon Gearing took his father, Floyd Gearing of Merrillan, to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire Friday. Phil Gearing of Beaver Dam was called here and Sunday he and Gordon drove to Eau Claire to see their father.  Mrs. Gearing was a guest in the Franklin Johnston home in Eau Claire that she might be with her husband. 

 

Charles Marvin who has been visiting with his home folks, was to leave today (Thursday) for Fort Knox, Ky.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gorkowski and family of Black River Falls, visited Sunday afternoon at the Will Ringrose home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mayer and children drove to Halter Sunday to have dinner with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hytry.

 

Mrs. Donald Zerbel and Mrs. Freda Zerbel were Neillsville visitors Friday.

 

Mrs. Dale Struensee and children of rural Neillsville spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bailey.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sheffer and two children of La Crosse visited at the Walter Sheffer home Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. John Greub were dinner guests Sunday of Mrs. Lucy Gephart.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Schmitz and children of Cadott were dinner guests Sunday of Mrs. Emma Gerber.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ness and family of Eau Claire were supper guests Sunday at the Willard Stanley home, and called on Mrs. Emma Gerber.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bailey visited Friday at the Charles Bollom home in Neillsville.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Matti were dinner guests Sunday at the Claire Enerson home in North Branch, helping Mrs. Enerson celebrate her birthday, which was Thursday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Will Hein spent Saturday with Col. And Mrs. Neil Hein at Camp McCoy. Sunday Col. And Mrs. Hein and his parents drove to Westby to be dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crume.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Markham took their aunt, Mrs. Sylvester Taylor, to her home in Mosinee after spending a week with them.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Chester Bailey entertained at supper Sunday night, Frank Krosinski and boys in honor of Kenny Krosinski’s 10th birthday.

 

Bruce Huebner was an overnight guest of the Sheffer boys Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Janke had as dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Janke and family.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sliter of Merrillan called on Mrs. Lucy Gephart Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Dignin attended funeral services for Mrs. Elcena Hart in Neillsville Tuesday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Jahn of Alma Center and Clarence John of West Garden Valley were dinner and supper guests Sunday of (missing names).
