Ruth J. C. Noeldner Machtan, 92, Spencer, formerly of Loyal, died on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Golden Living CenterThree Oaks, Marshfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman and Rev. Richard Noeldner ( her son) will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Steve Voss,, Mike Voss, Craig Voss, John Palmer, Noel Palmer, Brian Noeldner, Jason Noeldner, and Daniel Prust. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday, Oct. 28, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services.

 

Ruth Johanna Christina Lindner was born on Feb. 2, 1919, in Loyal, the daughter of John and Clara (nee Schaeffner) Lindner. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Loyal area, graduating from Loyal High School in 1936. She graduated in 1938 from Beauty Culture School in Minneapolis. Upon completing her schooling, she moved back to Loyal and worked at Emma’s Beauty Shop from 1939-1942. She married Erwin C. Noeldner on Nov. 21, 1939, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal. They bought a farm just south of Loyal and farmed until1976, at which time they sold the farm to their son, Jerry, and moved to Loyal. They operated Noeldner Implement in Loyal from 1952-70. After moving to Loyal in 1976, she worked at the Hardware Hank store for eight years. Her husband, Erwin died on Jan. 29, 1991. She moved to Spencer in 1997 and met LaVerne Machtan while square dancing. They were married on Oct. 2, 1999, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Loyal. They resided in Spencer until the time of her death. She was a very active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the church choir, and served as financial secretary for 20 years, She also was a hospice volunteer for several years. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, quilting, reading, canning, berry picking, sewing, square dancing, baking pies and her famous coffee cake, crafts, and playing cards and games.

 

She will be dearly missed by her husband, LaVerne, Spencer; five children, Jean (Ron) Abel, Junction City, Marilyn Palmer, Steamboat Springs, Colo., Jerry (Sandra) Noeldner, Loyal, Rev. Richard (Dee) Noeldner, Cumberland, and Cynthia (Terry) Prust, Spencer; three step-children, Darlene (Homer VanMeter) Machtan, Rhinelander, Kenneth Machtan, Madison, and Dale (Rosie) Machtan, Marchfield; one step daughter-in-law, Diane Machtan, Marshfield; 13 grandchildren, Sandra (Mark) Reinhardt, Cedarburg, Steve (Tammy) Voss, Marshfield, Mike (Kelly) Voss, Marshfield, John Palmer, Burnsville, Minn., Michelle (Steve) Quirk, Lakeville Minn., Noel (Ashley) Palmer, Bozeman, Mont., Jason (Alexi) Noeldner, Maple Grove, Minn., Brian (Jacqueline) Noeldner, Lakewood, Colo., Craig (Mary) Voss, Combined Locks, Jenny (Matt) Hudson, San Ramon, Calif., Christina (Mike) Mroz, Kellogg, Minn., Kristan Noeldner, Loyal, and Daniel Prust, Eau Claire; 26 great-grandchildren; one neice, Carol (Garth) LaRene; one nephew, James (Janice) Helms; and many other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin; one daughter, Susanne K. Noeldner, on May 2, 2006; a son-in-law, John Palmer, on Dec. 11, 2006; one step-son, Glen Noeldner; one sister, Dorothy Helms; and one brother, Wilbur Lindner.
