Dietrich, Christian (17 MAY 1829 - 2 MAR 1913)

Another of the county pioneers answered his final summons when Christian Dietrich, a much respected old German of this town passed into that deep sleep called death, Sunday morning, March 2, 1913.

Decease, though having seen 84 summers, was still interested in the affairs of life and it was while engaged in building a fire Saturday morning that his clothes were ignited and he received the fatal burns that resulted in his death early the next day.

Deceased was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, on May 17th, 1829 and came to this country in 1852.  In 1857 he located on the farm where he has since resided and where two years later, on April 6, 1859 he took his bride, she who was Miss Julia Rausch, and they began their married life.  To them were born five children, all boys, namely John, Henry, Ernest, Charley and Fred, all of them useful and honorable men, now surviving.  For many years deceased and his wife had lived with their son John and it was here, surrounded by their beloved children, that they passed their last days.

The funeral was held from the Mapleworks German Lutheran Church Wednesday, Rev. hasz officiating, and the remains interred in the church cemetery beside the body of the estimable wife who preceded him a short time since.
