Zimmerman, Earl (Run Over by Tractor - 1963)

Earl Zimmerman, former Neillsville resident who demonstrates heavy equipment for a Milwaukee manufacturer, was run over by a farm tractor near Humbird last week, but he has no broken bones.

A rear tractor wheel passed over his shoulder and foot while he was working on a field on his farm a mile and one-half south of Humbird, operated by Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Wallace.

Zimmerman was taken to the hospital in Black River Falls, where he was kept because he was unable to use his foot.  He also received treatment for a scratched back.

Spending a vacation from his work at his daughter’s home, Zimmerman said the tractor engine stopped and he jumped off the vehicle to fix it.  In remounting, he said, he apparently touched the starter button and fell off. The tractor, in gear, passed over him as he lay on the ground, then came to a halt.

Tommy Morgan, 18, who was working in a nearby field, heard Zimmerman’s cries for help.  He summoned Mrs. Zimmerman and their daughter, Mrs. Wallace, who were in Humbird at the time, and they took him to a hospital in Black River Falls.

The Zimmerman’s live now in Springfield, Ill.
