Our play last Friday night was a financial success.  The total receipts were $72.85; the expense $22.10; leaving us $50.75 for our school use.

We hereby extend our thanks to the community for their loyal support, and especially to the little musicians who played for us.  Of course some mistakes must happen with all public events.  Especially when managed by those who are not well acquainted with the social dotage of the community.  Some dissatisfaction on account of the charges for admission are mentioned.  The committee in charge of this event felt that all the entertainment offered was overpaid for at 35 cents and that an extra charge for dancing would be asking too much.  Some people however, took advantage of this and came after the play and took in a good time after the first performance.  Of this cheap class the committee on arrangements was not aware.  Then probably the musicians were not all pleased.  Mr. Vincent asked for the free admission of all the band and orchestra, which was granted.  You will readily see that this is a larger item than it seems.  35 in the band and 10 in the orchestra means 45 tickets at $.15 each means $15.85.  This equals 20 percent of the total receipts.

With all honors to those who furnished the music it is asking almost too much of an orchestra, mostly composed of children, to play loud enough to entertain the fancied ear of a large dancing mob.  So please let those whose feelings were hurt on the remark of the music read these lines with the right interpretation.

The writer of these lines is at a loss of how to manage to please the people when the social faction draws such decided notions on what might be meant by a remark of mere comment.  I shall be glad to meet any old grievances for a better understanding of who is wrong and who is right.  Thus far I have had only my school work at heart.  There I shall spend the next six weeks to make your children feel that it is the only place to be for real growth and enjoyment.
