Ula "Versal" Kaleoo, 76, Owen, passed away on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at Clark County Health Care Center, Owen, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, from 4-8 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Bonnie Cain will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Pallbearers will be Ron Niznik, Butch Humke, Ron Rowley, Ed Berger, Gary Rasmussen and Justin Niznik.

 

Ula Versal Poppe was born on Jan. 4, 1935, in Deel, Va., the daughter of Daniel and Maude (Nee Nichols) Poppe. She was a graduate of Withee High School, and then attended cosmetology school and worked as a beautician for several years. She married J. Edward Miller in July 1958. They later divorced. She then married Gerald Kalepp. She worked as a cook for many years at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, before retiring. She had many interests, but especially loved reading, gardening, bingo, cooking and the casino.

 

She will be dearly missed by three daughters, Tootsie (Butch Humke) Miller, Bloomer, Kathleen (Ron) Rowley, Racine, and Denise (Ed Berger) Miller, Schofield; one son, David Miller, Highland Village, Texas; a son-in-law, Ron Niznik, Stetsonville; one brother, Donald "Bud" Poppe, Withee; one sister, Opal Martinson, Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Craig Niznik, Justin (Lindsey) Niznik , Aaron Niznik, Gary Rasmussen, Jesse (Dana) Genteman, Heather (Ian) Nelsen, Ryan Rowley and Kim Rowley; and five great-grandchildren, David and Nathan Rasmussen, Gunner Genteman, Landon Cruz and Elsie Dawn Niznik.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald Kalepp; one daughter, Dawn Niznik; and one sister, Delia Gay.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at the Clark County Health Care Center for the many years of outstanding care she was given and the hospice staff at Ministry Home Care, Marshfield.
