Bryan, Hepsa (28 October 1872 - 11 December 1963)

 

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Hepsa Bryan, 91, of Neillsville, who died December 11. The Rev. W. C. Koehler of the United Church of Christ officiated.  Saturday, the body was taken to Verona, where services were held from the Memorial Baptist Church. The Rev. R. D. Matthews officiated.  Burial was made in the Verona Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Bryan was born October 28, 1872, in Dane County. She attended the Verona schools and on February 6, 1885, she was married to the late George Bryan in Verona.  They farmed in the Poynette area and later near Verona.  The Bryan family came to Clark County in 1919, and this had been her home since. She was a musician, being able to play the organ, piano and violin. She and her brothers had an orchestra and played for many occasions.

 

She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Cameron) Black.

 

Mrs. Bryan is survived by six children: George Bryan of R. 2 Neillsville, Walter Bryan of Madison; Mrs. Agnes Cummings of Neillsville; John Bryan of Neillsville; Mrs. Jessie McMillan of Sycamore, Ill.; Mrs. Nellie Roder of Waukesha; and Mrs. Earl (Edith) Droster of McFarland.

 

At the Neillsville service, Mrs. Jess W. Scott, organist, played "Safe In the Arms of Jesus," "In the Garden," and "The Old Rugged Cross.  Two hymns were sung by Philip Rothlisberger at the Verona service.  They were "In the Garden" and "The Eastern Gate."  He was accompanied by Mrs. Rothlisberger.

 

Six grandsons acted as pallbearers - Dean, Bruce and Walter Bryan, John Roder, George McMillan and Eugene Bryan.

 

People from away attending were Mrs. Jessie McMillan, Mrs. Velma Singleton, George and Roy McMillan of Sycamore, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bryan, Sr., of Madison; Mrs. Nellie Roder, Roger Roder, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Roder and family of Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Droster and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Droster of Madison.

 

Many relatives and friends from the Neillsville and Verona area attended both services.
