Makkonen, Oscar #2 (9 MAR 1878 - 22? AUG 1961)

 

Rev. H. Wilkman officiated at the final rites conducted for Oscar Makkonen, a retired farmer who had made his home in the village of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 18 years.  Services were held at the Bethany Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25th.  Committal services were held at Riverside Cemetery.  The Messrs. Sol Laakso, Charles Kangas, Victor Mattila, Kaivo Niemi, Frank Luoma and Hjamler Heikkenen were the pallbearers.

 

Born March 9, 1878 in Finland, the deceased was married May 9, 1909 to the former Tiina Marii.  The couple moved to a farm in the Town of Hoard in 1914 where they diligently and profitably developed it until their retirement in 1943.

 

His passing is mourned by his wife, two sons, Oscar Makkonen Jr. of Withee, and Reino of Emden, Ill.; four daughters, Lina Makkonen, Chicago, Ill., Sarah Makkonen, who is in Japan, Mrs. Leslie (Martha) Lukey, Kalena, Mich., and Mrs. Isto (Ruth) Liimatta, Hood River, Oregon, and nine grandchildren.
