Hanson, Alvin (23 DEC 1930-31 DEC 2011)

 

Alvin C. Hanson, 81, Granton, died on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan 4, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, and for one hour prior to funeral services at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Zion American Lutheran Church, Granton. The Rev. Bob Garbisch will officiate. Music will be provided by Marjorie Dahl, organist. Military honors will be accorded by the Loyal Veteran’s Council. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery, Taylor, at a later date.

 

Alvin Clayton Hanson was born on Dec. 23, 1930, in Taylor to Archie and Leva (nee Halverson) Hanson. He attended Taylor schools and then worked at General Motors in Janesville until entering the United States Army in 1951. He married Virginia Berg on Dec. 8, 1951, and they lived in Fayetteville, N.C., while he was serving in the 82nd Airbourne. Upon his discharge from the Army, Alvin returned to General Motors and worked there until 1956 when he went to work for Tri-State Breeders (now known as Accelerated Genetics). They moved to Granton in 1958 and he continued to work as an artificial inseminator. Later, he became district supervisor and eventually put on schools for the trade in the United States, Mexico and South America. After retirement, for several years, he and Virginia would head to Dillon, Mont., for the month of May, where Alvin would breed cows on two ranches. He was a member of the Granton Rotary and a life member of the FFA Alumni. He served on the Granton Villiage Board, the Granton Park, the Fire Department and the Zion American Lutheran Church Council.

 

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; three sons, Dan (Mary Jo) Hanson, Savage, Minn., Allan (Lou Ann) Hanson, Loyal, and Bruce (Sheri) Hanson, Granton; four grandchildren, Chelsie (Devon) Gawne-Mark, Erin (Tony) Passon, Josh Hanson and Jamie Hanson; two brothers, Artis (Elayne) Hanson, Portage, and Dean Hanson, Taylor; one sister, Donna (Don) Larson, Alma Center; and many nieces, nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Wheelock; a brother, Archie LaVerne Hanson, and a sister-in-law. Janice Hanson.
