Brooks, Beatrice #2 (5 NOV 1913)

The George Brooks home in the town of Lynn was the scene of a happy occasion when on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 5th, 1913, in the presence of a large company of admiring relatives and close friends Miss Beatrice Brooks and Mr. William Johnson were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, Rev. Peckham of Grand Rapids pronouncing the sacred words which unit this worthy pair.  The bride wore a dress of white messaline elaborately trimmed with shadow lace and bead work and was attended by her sister, Miss Frances Brooks, in a dress of pink crepe de chine  The bride carried a bouquet of pink roses, while her maid carried white chrysanthemums.  Miss Laura Neitzel, a close friend, played the wedding march.  The rooms were beautifully decorated with smilax, carnations and chrysanthemums.

The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Brooks, was born here and attended our public schools until her father was elected sheriff of the county and moved to Neillsville, and she entered the high school there and continued until her graduation therefrom; since which time she has been a successful teacher, teaching here in this county and near Morristown, S.D., where she took up a homestead and held down her claim until she proved up and got merchantable title to same.  She is a young woman of sterling worth, well qualified to take the position she is henceforth elected to fill.

The groom is a young man from Oxford, Wis., who while making his home with his sister, Mrs. Geo. E. Crothers at Neillsville, entered the Neillsville High School and completed the course, graduating therefrom as a classmate of the bride’s brother, Earl Brooks.  A young man of industry, learning and good habits, well qualified to care for the worthy bride he has won.  He too took up a homestead near Morristown, S.D. and took up his abode upon the same until he secured absolute ownership of it.  The bridal pair drove to Chili and took the evening train for St. Paul on a short wedding trip.  A bunch of young people in attendance at the wedding drove here to Granton and boarded the train as she pulled in from Chili, gave them a good shower of rice which if nothing more declared them to their fellow travelers as a bridal pair.

Among the out of town guests in attendance we noted Miss Blanche Morris, Mrs. Fred Raine and Mr. and Mrs. Crothers of Neillsville, Miss Nellie Broker of Lindsey, Mrs. R. Norman of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hartson and Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Hartson of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Teatz of the town of York and Mr. Merrill Vroman of Packwaukee, the last named young man a particular friend of the groom’s acted as best man.

The News joins with their many friends with best wishes for a long and happy married life.
