Spies, Bertha (Abt 1866-02 April 1958)

 

Mrs. Bertha Spies, 92, mother of Mrs. G. W. Nelson, died Wednesday, April 2, at Sheboygan.

 

The former Bertha Braumscheiber was born in Germany and came to America with her parents when she was eight years old. They settled at Little Swamico, Oconto County.

 

She was married to Jacob Spies, Sr., in 1904 and then moved to Oconto and Later to Gillett. She was a member of the Lutheran Church at Gillett. After her husband’s death in 1932 she spent much of her time with her daughter, Bertha, at Loyal, and her son, Jacob, at Sheboygan.

 

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Alexander (Eleanora) Sutherland, of White Rock, B.C. Canada; Mrs. Allan (Henrietta) Merry of Slocan City, B.C. Canada, and Mrs. G.W. (Bertha) Nelson, Loyal; two sons. Mr. Phillip Spies. Rawleigh, N.C., and Jacob Spies of Sheboygan; a sister, Mrs. Helen Huss of Little Suamico; and thirteen grandchildren. Two sons, two brothers, and one sister preceded her in death.

 

Graveside rites were held Saturday, April 5, in Evergreen Cemetery, Oconto, with Rev. George L. Reutschler of Sheboygan, officiating.

 

Those from Loyal attending the funeral rites were Dr. and Mrs. G. W. Nelson, Mrs. William Trindal, Mrs. Hal Voight, Mrs. Perry Volk, Mrs. Elmer Sterr, Mrs. Jack Pribnow, Sr., and Mrs. Maynard Erickson.

 

Miss Gay Nelson of Milwaukee and George Nelson of Medford also attended the services.
