Olson, Herman J. (21 March 1882 - 6 April 1965)

 

Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) evening at 8:30 at the Georgas Funeral Home for Herman J. Olson, 83, of Neillsville, who died Tuesday at his home.

 

The body will be taken to Greenwood Friday for services at 2 p.m. from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Arvid Myhrwold will officiate at both services. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

 

Mr. Olson, a former Clark County Sheriff and Neillsville Mayor, was born March 21, 1882, in Porsgrund, Norway. The family came to the United States in 1884, locating in Chicago, Ill, where Mr. Olson attended schools.

 

He was married June 22, 1906, to the former Ida C. Anderson, who died in 1952.  The Olson family moved to Greenwood area in 1912, residing there until 1926.

 

Mr. Olson served as Clark County Sheriff from 1927-1928, 1933 to 1934, and again from 1939-1942.  He was a member of the city police department from 1946 to 1959 and served as justice of the peace from 1950 to 1954.

 

In 1954 he was elected mayor of Neillsville, an office which he held until 1958.   He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood, and of the Neillsville Lodge, No. 198, I. O. O. F.

 

Surviving are five children: Mrs. Arlene Lewis of Minneapolis, Minn.; Herbert of New London; Mrs. Thomas (Ruth) Sugg of Chicago, Ill.; Roy of Loyal; and Mrs. Lois Guest of Neillsville.  Six grandchildren also survive.
