Holt, Edward Earl (1 February 1899 - 9 December 1965)

 

Edward Earl Holt, 66, of Rt. 1, Greenwood, died Thursday in Neillsville. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the united Church of Christ, of which he was a member. The Rev. W. C. Koehler officiated, with burial in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

E. Earl Holt was born February 1, 1899, in Clark County, where he had been a lifetime resident.  His parents were the late Albert J. and Carrie (Foster) Holt.  After attending rural schools in Clark County, he attended a mechanics school in Kansas City, Mo., later returning to his farm in the town of Weston. He operated a concrete block factory in Christie for a few years and later was an employee of the Roddis Company in Marshfield for 15 years.  He retired in 1962 due to ill health.  Mr. Holt served on the former Forman School district board for 12 years as treasurer and clerk, and was the town chairman of several terms.

 

He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Putzel, whom he married June 1, 1932, in Neillsville; three children, James E. Holt of Neillsville; Mrs. Robert (Bette) Wilsmann of Neillsville; and Richard E. Holt of East Troy.  Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Marion Begley of Neillsville, and Mrs. William (Vera) Joyce, of Greenwood; a brother, Clarence Holt of rural Greenwood; and five grandchildren.

 

Mrs. W. C. Koehler and Mrs. Robert Peters sang, "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

 

Pallbearers were: Arthur Schroeder, Milo Mabie, Gilbert Wren, Rodger Grottke, George Schillinger and Tom Thornton.  Honorary pallbearers were Devere Sischo, Ray Hetzel, William Joyce, Jr., Donald Holt and Merton Holt.

 

People from out of town attending the service included: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Holt of East Troy; Rev. Jerome Hoeser of Wausau; Mrs. Frank Russ, Jr., of East Helena, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hetzel, Mr. and Mrs. Merton Holt, Mrs. Ethel Holt of Granton; Raymond McKimm of Marshfield.
