Kulwiec, Joseph J. (20 SEP 1898 - 25 MAR 1960)

 

Last rites were held at the Thorp Funeral Home Chapel here at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon for Joseph J. Kulwiec, 71, who passed away at the Stanley Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 25, 1960, death being caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

 

Services were conducted by Rev. C. Ward, pastor of the Methodist Church and Masonic services at the chapel and graveside by Ray Arndt, as Worshipful Master of Thorp Masonic Lodge.  The Eastern Star held a service for the deceased at the Funeral home on Sunday evening.

 

Mr. Kulwiec was born in Mariople (Kovno) Poland on Sept. 20, 1898, and came to America with his parents, the late John and Emelia Kulwiec, while still very young.  He resided near Lublin, Wis. until his marriage to Miss Maud K. Kronberg at Thorp on June 20, 1923, and since then had lived at his farm home in the town of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).

 

Taking up the profession of teaching shortly after graduating from high school, Mr. Kulwiec graduated from Central State Teacher’s College at Stevens Point.  He spent forty years teaching in the rural schools in this community and retired in 1956, at which time he became an insurance salesman.

 

He suffered from a heart ailment for the past two years.

 

He was a member of Thorp Lodge No. 264 F. & A.M. of Thorp, the Odd Fellows Lodge of Withee, Wis., and the eastern Star Order of Stanley, Wis.

 

Besides his wife, Maud Kulwiec, he is survived by two brothers, Walter and Stanley Kulwiec of Chicago, and one sister, Sophie Sternbeck of Sheboygan.  A son, Joseph Peter Kulwiec, 7 ½ months of age, preceded him in death.

 

He was laid to rest in the East Thorp Cemetery.  The following Masons served as pallbearers: Kenneth Lindquist, Russell Meske?, Wm. J. Klouda, Anton Gulczynski, Hjalmar Brandsness and Harry Quelle.
