Osgood, Evah J. (29 OCT 1863 - 20 JAN 1917)

Evah Jane Glidden Osgood, for years a patient sufferer from Bright’s disease, was taken suddenly and alarmingly ill last week Tuesday and at 5:15 a.m. Saturday morning passed on.  She is survived by her husband Eugene Osgood, to whom she was married twenty five years ago last November, and by their daughter Ethel, Mrs. Harry Burch of Racine, and by her daughter Winnie, Mrs. Joe Trader of Fall Creek, a child of a former marriage, and by three grandchildren.  These children were summoned here by wire and were at her bedside, caring for and comforting her in her last hours.

Deceased was born in New York State 53 years ago, a daughter of Wm. and Jane Glidden.  She came to Clark County with her parents when she was but 3 years old and has continued to reside here ever since.  The funeral was held from the Adventist Church Monday afternoon, Rev. Wilson Mallory officiating.  Interment was made in the Windfall Cemetery beside the body of their four month old boy who died in infancy, 23 years ago.  The pallbearers were Fisk Lee, Noble Downer, H.J. Pietenpol, Henry Lawson, John Breese and Walter Graves.

Mrs. Osgood was a hospitable woman and a good homemaker, a kind neighbor and friend; an esteemed member of the Mystic Workers and the Windfall Birthday Club.  Despite the weather, terrible snow drifts and bad roads, her funeral was a large one.  Her death was attributed to Erysipelas and Bright’s disease.  At 7 o’clock Friday morning she seemed to rally and her physician held out hopes to her loved ones, that she might again get up, but at 1 o’clock Saturday morning a change for the worse set in and she continued to sink, until the end and then another wife and mother has gone on before.
