Jaskot, Melva Jane (2 December 1936 - 27 March 2012)

 

Melva J. Jaskot, age 75, of Thorp, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp.  Rev. Don Meuret officiated and burial followed in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation was held on Monday March 30, 2012, from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home where a 7 p.m. parish rosary was recited. Visitation was also held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church.

 

Melva Jane Buchholz was born on December 2, 1936 in rural Holcombe, WI to Melvin and Helen (Birch) Buchholz.  She attended area schools and graduated from Lake Holcombe High School as valedictorian in 1954.  After graduating from high school, Melva attended the Eau Claire Teacher’s College and received her teaching certificate. She taught school in the New Auburn and Birchwood School districts until 1960.  She was united in marriage to Raymond Jaskot on June 3, 1961, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell. They later moved to Thorp where Melva worked at ITT Life Insurance Corporation and the Thorp Public Library until her retirement in 2007.

 

In her spare time, Melva had many interests, but especially enjoyed quilting, reading, and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.

 

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its PCCW.

 

She is survived by her husband, Raymond, of Thorp; five children: Alice (Jay) Beckman of Cedarburg, WI, Margaret (Larry) Newsom of North Barrington, IL, Raymond (Laurie) of South Barrington, IL, Angela Jaskot of Madison, and Victoria Jaskot (fiancé Dan Paluszynski) of West Allis, WI; two grandchildren: Kelsey and Kyra Beckman; two step-grandchildren: Christopher (Linda) Newsom and Alexander (Carrie) Newsom; four step-great-grandchildren: Benjamin Newsom, Jonah Newsom, Aidan Newsom, and Ella Newsom; four brothers: James (Clara) Buchholz of Bloomington, MN, Larry (Pat) Buchholz of Apple Valley, MN, Dwight Buchholz of Holcombe, WI, and Peter (Penny) Buchholz of Holcombe, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Melva was preceded in death by her parents.
