Ethel Carol Hanson was born on April 28, 1927, in Athens, the daughter of William and Agnes (nee Jones) Hanson. She graduated from Abbotsford High School and then attended Medford Normal School. She taught at the Pickard School, near Abbotsford, for two years. She married Carl A. Lindner on June 20, 1951, in Dorchester. They bought a farm south of Greenwood, and farmed together until retiring in 1989. After their retirement, they loved to travel south for the winter, leaving after spending Christmas with the family, and returning home in time for Easter. They made many good friends on their travels. Her husband, Carl died on Nov. 30, 2008. Ethel was a member of St. Mary;s Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Society. She had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her family, cooking and baking for her children and grandchildren, and she always had something ready for anyone who might drop in. She loved receiving flowers for any occasion and was known to say, “Give me flowers while I am alive so I can enjoy them.”

She will be dearly missed by her children, Chuck (Denise) Lindner, Greenwood, Greg (Donna) Lindner, Greenwood, Mark (Connie) Lindner, Willard, Mary Kay (Ken) Behnke, Loyal, Dennis (Michelle) Lindner, Loyal, Monica Ruzic, Greenwood, and Dale (Diane) Lindner, Greenwood; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Gerry Hanson; Wausau; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; two sisters, Wilma Blumenkamp and Carol Roepke; and three brothers, Myron “Pinky” Hanson, Robert Hanson and Arthur Hanson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund or the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin (http://www.alzwisc.org/) in honor of Ethel.
