VERLAND BERRETT (1903-1987)


Memorial services were held at the Robert Worden Home, Greenwood, for Verland L. Berret, 84, Greenwood, Clark County. Berrett died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1987 at 3:40 p.m. at the Neillsville Memorial Home, where he had been a resident for three years.


Rev. Dennis Thomas officiated at the 11 a.m. service. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery.


Verland Berrett was born June 1, 1903 in Loyal to William J. and Mrytia (nee Cook) Berrett. He then move to Unity with his parents, where he lived for a few years. They later moved to a farm in the town of Beaver, and then to the state of Oregon, where he lived for two years. He returned to the farm in the town of Beaver. After his marriage to Geneva Davis on Sept. 27, 1927 they continued to farm in the town of Beaver for many years, until they retired and moved to Greenwood. His wife died June 15, 1987. He became a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home due to failing health.


Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Jean) Worden, Greenwood one son, James Berrett, Marblehead, Mass. two sisters, Mrs. Luella Wendt, Neillsville, and Mrs. Genevieve Vole, Fond du Lac one brother, Roland Berrett, Greenwood seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son (Duane), and one sister (Ione).


Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, handled the arrangements.
