GREENWOOD YOUTH, DONALD PLAUTZ DIES SUDDENLY


Donald S. Plautz, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Plautz, R. 3, Greenwood, Clark County, died at wrestling practice at the Greenwood school Sunday evening, Nov. 30, 1975.


Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Robert Houston officiated.


Pallbearers were Dennis Suda, LaVerne Kind, Tom Behrens, Steve Speich, Terry Olson, and Dave Jasurda.


The Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of arrangements.


The junior and senior classes of Greenwood High School, and the football team and wrestling team attended the funeral.


Donald Plautz was a senior at Greenwood High School, and was active in wrestling, football and track. He was a letter winner for three years in football and would have received a fourth letter in wrestling this year. He received two letters in track, where he was active in shot put and discus.


He was voted all-conference in football and was Homecoming king at the school this year.


In wrestling he was awarded the quick pin award in 1973 and 1974, and had the most pins in 1974 and 1975. He was a champion last year in the Kickapoo invitational and the Greenwood Invitational and placed second in the regional as a sophomore, then advanced to sectional. He placed in the conference average tournaments as a sophomore and junior.


He was also a Junior High champion at Edgar.


Donald S. Plautz was born Sept. 14, 1957, and is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Plautz, Route 3, Greenwood two brothers, Scott and Paul, both at home four sisters, Carol, Cindy and Sharon, also at home, and Sue, Orlando, Fla., and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Plautz, Willard.


He was preceded in death by one brother, Alan.

Plautz, Donald (14 September 1957 - 30 November 1975)

An autopsy report issued late Tuesday revealed that Donald Plautz, 18-year old Greenwood High School wrestler, died as a result of heart failure induced by bronchial pneumonia “both acute and chronic,” which caused a viral myocarditis.

The report made to Robert W. Lulloff, Clark County Coroner. He collapsed Sunday evening at the beginning of wrestling practice at Greenwood High School.

Plautz, an all-conference Cloverbelt football selection in the season just ended, was an outstanding athlete and was selected Greenwood’s Homecoming king last fall.

According to reports here, he had been feeling well that day.

Services were to be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood, with the Rev. Robert B. Houston in charge. Burial was to be made in the parish cemetery.

The Greenwood School, grades nine through 12, was closed Wednesday morning to permit classmates to attend the service.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Plautz, of Rt. 3 Greenwood, he was born September 14, 1957.

Young Plautz had been interested in athletics throughout his junior and senior high school career. At Edgar, he was the junior high champion wrestler. In 1973 and 1974 he won the “Quick pin” award at Greenwood and was a certain letter winner this year. He won the Greenwood and Kickapoo invitationals in his weight and placed second in the WIAA regional matches his sophomore year.

Plautz also had won three football letters and two in track, in which he competed in the discus and shotput. During the summer he played on a local softball team.

Surviving besides his parents are four sisters and two brothers: Sue, Orlando, Fla.; Carol, Cindy, Sharon, Scott and Paul, all at home. Also, surviving are his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Plautz of Willard.
