AREA RESIDENT DIES AT AGE 77


Greenwood - Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hill Funeral Home in Greenwood, Clark County, for John Mortl, 77, of Greenwood, who died at 1 a.m. Thursday, Mar. 15, 1971, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mashfield, where he had been a patient since March 2.


The Rev. Eugene Antrim, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be made in the Greenwood cemetery.
Visitations may be made at the funeral home beginning today.


Mr. Mortl was born July 12, 1893, in Tyro, Austria, and came to the United States with his parents at the age of 3. The family settled in Lincoln, Ill. He received his education there, and was employed there in a coal mine and blacksmith shop.


In 1913 he joined the Army and was in the service for seven years. He came to Clark County in 1922, and farmed at Tioga until 1946, when he came to Greenwood. He had been employed at Clark Electric Cooperative, prior to his retirement in 1958.


He was a veteran of World War I.


Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wallis-Hinker Legion Post of Greenwood.
