Gustave Tischendorf Local Pioneer Died Today

 

He Had Been In Ill Health Over The Past year--Came Here 51 Years Ago


At 1:30 o'clock, Funeral Services from the Fuchsgruber Funeral Parlors and from the Peace Evangelical Church were conducted for Gustave Adolph Tischendorf, an eighty-one-year-old pioneer. He passed away Monday at the Clark County Hospital in Owen after nearly a year long illness and rapidly declining health during the past six months.


Funeral services were read by Rev. Meier, of Greenwood, and interment was made in the Peace Church cemetery. Six grandsons acted as the pallbearers. They were William and Lloyd Tischendorf Arthur and Elmer Leichtnam and Ernst and Elmer Winchell.


Gustave Tischendorf was born in Leipzig, Germany, April 24, 1861 where he was also married to Ida Marie Hahn, June 13, 1882.  They immigrated to the United States  in the spring of 1891, and immediately settled in Dorchester, Clark Co., WI.

 

Mr. Tischendorf operated a cigar business and in 1900, purchased a farm a mile north of town. They resided there until 1934 when they moved into a brand new home in the village of Dorchester.


The widow is living with her daughter in Abbotsford.  Their four children are: Mrs. George (Martha) Dahl, Minocqua Robert of Minocqua Mrs. Ed (Rose) Leichtham, Abbotsford and Mrs. Joel (Mary) Winchell, Dorchester. Two children died in infancy and one son, William died in 1920.


Gust Tischendorf well known in the community who belonged to the Peace Evangelical Church. He will be remembered for his contributions toward the growth of the village through the years.
