Humphrey Cornelius & Phebe T. Ketchum

Christie, Weston Twp., Clark Co., Wisconsin

 

"Humphrey" was born near Duanesburg, Schenatady, NY 9 Oct 1844 to Jesse and Eliza Ketchum who were also natives of the Empire State.  His brothers were, Augustus (b. 1840), William (b. 1842), Henry (b. 1843) and his sister was Abigail (b. 1849)/ 

 

Humphrey enlisted at Chicago, 11 Mar 1865 as a Pvt. with Co. K, 9th IL Cav.  He received an honorable discharge 27 Oct 1865 and was mustered out at Selma, AL, four days later, 31 Oct 1865.  He married Phebe T. 29 Oct 1872 in Clark Co., WI.  She was born in WI about 1849.  Their children were: Clarence Maines (b. 1869, Step-son), Forest H. (b. 1874, m. Cora Ellen McGill, d. 24 Aug 1952 in Boulder, CO), and Lewis (b. 1878).  6 Jul 1885, he filed for an invalid pension.

 

Humphrey died 6 May 1909 and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rifle, Garfield, CO.  Phebe filed for a widow's pension 8 May 1909 in CO.

Ketchum, Forest H, son, white, male, born May 1874, age 26, single, born in Wisconsin, parents born in NY, farm laborer.

Phebe T Ketcham is 61, widow, born in Wisconsin - living with Forest H Ketcham (son) age 35, Clarance Maines (son) age 39, and Marie M Ketcham (daughter) age 27
