George Atkinson

Greenwood, Eaton, Clark Co., Wisconsin

George Atkinson (Possibly 1st Reg., Wis. H. A. or the 7th Reg., Wis. Inf.) owned property in section 12, Eaton Twp., Clark Co., WI and it is noted on the 1880 Plat Map.  Another 1880 Map indicates S. Stoneburg and P. Simmons were living on that land and they are also the owners listed on the 1893 Map.  Apparently George sold the property to them sometime in 1880.  The original Patentees of the tract were Enoch Day Woodbridge Weed & Huldah (Smith) Lawrence and the Warrantee was Josiah Lawrence. This 160 acres was granted at the La Crosse Land Office to Huldah Lawrence, 16 Jun 1858, who was the widow of Josiah Lawrence, a Pvt. in the Revolutionary War.  [Grant Record]

Enoch was born 5 Aug 1827 in Hinesburg, Chittenden Co., VT, the son of Henry and Sarah Maria (Woodbridge) Weed.  He died in 1902 and was buried in the Village Cemetery, Hinesburg, VT.  Huldah and Josiah married 29 Nov 1763 in Hartford, CT.  He was born 29 Nov 1763 in Hartford and died 3 Jul 1835 in Monkton, VT.  Huldah (the widow of Josiah Lawrence) was his first wife.  He married Sally Sarah Willoughby in 1788.

*Note: Huldah Weed was born in 1763 and died at the age of 82 or 83 (1846).  She was buried in West Granby Cemetery, Granby, Hartford County, CT
