Marek, Charles F. (3 February 1922 - 29 May 1966)

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Charles F. Marek, Jr., 44, of Rt. 2 Neillsville, who died Sunday at his home. The Rev. Keith Hanley of Black River Falls officiated. Burial was made in the Hatfield Cemetery.

 

Mr. Marek suffered a heart attack shortly after he and Mrs. Marek had entertained at an anniversary party Saturday night for Mr. and Mrs. Louis Zschernitz. The last guest left about 15 minutes after midnight.  He helped Mrs. Marek put the house in order, and then was stricken as he prepared to retire.

 

Mr. Marek, Jr. was born February 3, 1922, in Jackson County, where he received his education.  He entered World War II in 1942, serving with the army.  Following his return from the service, he entered the sand and gravel business, which he operated for the past eight years in the Town of Dewhurst.

 

Mr. Marek had served the Town of Dewhurst as its Town treasurer for several terms, and was a member of the Neillsville Public School building committee.

 

His first marriage was to Betty Prochaka.  On May 10, 1947, he was married to Virginia Harmon in Black River Falls.  Mr. Marek was a member of the Thompson-Red Cloud Post, V.  F. W. in Black River Falls.

 

He is survived by his wife; five children, Miss Patricia Sheda of Neillsville; David, Carolyn, Lee and Tim Marek, all at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marek, Sr., of Merrillan; two sisters, Mrs. Henry (Rose) Valence of Menasha; and Mrs. Cleo (Marie) Thompson of Black River Falls; and two brothers, George and Joseph Marek, both of Merrillan.

Funeral services were held May 31 from the Georgas Funeral Home for Charles F. Marek, Jr., 44, who died May 29, at his home. The Rev. Keith Hanley of Black River Falls officiated.  Military rites at the graveside were conducted by the Thompson-Red Cloud Post, V. F. W., of Black River Falls. Burial was made in the Hatfield Cemetery.

 

Ellis Wall, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott, sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Have Thine own way Lord."

 

Pallbearers were: James Conkey, Ted Janicki, Marion Kluckhohn, Joe Vieau, Louis Zschernitz and Frank Zlesak.

 

People from away here for the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marek, Sr., George and Joseph Marek, all of Merrillan; Robert Marek, of Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Valence of Menasha; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Valence of Appleton; Miss Nancy Zlesak, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Artis Harmon, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bartos, all of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ezzelle and family and E. Charles Holcomb of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schmid, Harold Schmid and Jay Schmid of Bensenville, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Carl F. Lenz and Eugene Overby of Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Berdette McNaul of Chili; Mrs. Lawrence Hildebrandt of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Walters of Granton; Donald Hagie of Oshkosh; and Wilbur Anderson of Westby.  Many others present were from Neillsville, Hatfield, Willard and Greenwood.
