Schnabel, Leon Carl (11 November 1921 - 10 May 2012)

 

Leon C. Schnabel, 90, of Neillsville died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the Neillsville Retirement Community under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.

 

Leon Carl Schnabel was born Nov. 11, 1921, in the Levis Township, Clark County. After his education he went to work sawing wood for Bill Moldenhauer and hauling milk for Otto Warren.  He also worked for Fullerton Lumber Company in Neillsville for 22 years.  He was united in marriage to June Seelow Jan. 1, 1943. Together they farmed and raised their family.  Leon was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.

 

He is survived by his wife, June, of Neillsville; a son, Donald (Lois) Schnabel of Marshfield; Two daughters, Sharon (Ken) Kirn of Willard, and Diane (Dennis) Meyer of Cudahy; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Leon is further survived by four sisters-in-law, Arlene Schnabel of Neillsville, Anna Schnabel of Marshfield, Pat Schnabel of Aberdeen, S.D., and Bonnie Schnabel of Neillsville; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Leon was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Clarence (Ella) Schnabel, Herbert (Dorothy) Schnabel, Lillian Wagner, Velda (Elliot) King, Eileen (Robert) Scharf, Russell, Harold, Delbert, and Verlyn Schnabel.

 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated.  Judy Trunkel, organist, provided music.  Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Casketbearers were Bob Barth, Franklin Boh, Dan Clark, Roger Erickson, Roger Grottke, Felix Kotcon and Jerry Schmidt.
