Brooks, Clark A. (12 May 1894 - 9 October 1966)

Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Zion American Lutheran Church in Town of Grant for Clark A. Brooks, 72, of Granton, who died Sunday in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The Rev. Evan Dieck officiated. Burial was made in Town of Lynn Cemetery.

Mr. Brooks was born, May 12, 1894, in the Town of Lynn, and attended schools there. He was a graduate of Neillsville High School. On November 24, 1917, he was married to the former Elda Viergutz in the Town of Grant. They were engaged in farming until 1947, when they moved to Lynn.

He worked for the Clark County Highway Department for eight years, retiring in 1965. He had served as town chairman and town clerk, and was a member of the County Board of Supervisors for several years.

Mr. Brooks was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Mrs. Maurice (Marion) Althaus of Dodgeville and Mrs. Donald (Lois) Gueldenzopf of Racine; a sister, Mrs. R. C. (Mable) Norman of Yakima, Wash.; a brother, Raymond Brooks of Spiceland, Ind.; and by seven grandchildren.

Funeral services for Clark A. Brooks, 72, of Lynn, were held Wednesday afternoon, October 12, from the Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant. The Rev. Evan Dieck officiated and burial was made in the Town of Lynn Cemetery.

Two hymns, “Faith of Our Fathers” and “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Margie Schlinsog.

Pallbearers were: Henry Dahlke, Martin Krause, Albert Hasz, D. J. Adams, William Schwantes and John Grassman.

People from out of town in attendance at the funeral included: Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Althaus and family of Dodgeville; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gueldenzopf and family of Racine; Erwin Brooks of Grand Rapids, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kruse of Lanesboro, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Craig Montage of Augusta; Mrs. Hattie Kruse of Rochester, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sager of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. William Tullis and Beulah DeFoe of Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Schultz of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lowe and Robert Breseman of Marshfield; Al Goldhamer and Carl Cable of Colby. Many others from the Chili, Granton and Neillsville areas also attended the service.
