Arthur Berg, 62, of Neillsville died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at his home after a five-year battle with colon cancer.

Arthur William Berg was born Nov. 22, 1949, at home in the village of Neshkoro (near Wautoma) in Marquette County. He attended school in Alma Center and graduated in 1967. He then moved to Milwaukee and worked. After a year, Art returned and began working at the Norplex Factory in Black River Falls in 1968. He was united in marriage to Linda Burge may 10, 1969, at the united Methodist Church in Black River Falls. In 1973, Art began working for the Jackson County Iron Mine, which is no Lake Wazee. He worked there until 1982 when he began farming. Art and Linda moved to Neillsville in 1986 and worked on the Roger and June Erickson farm for four years, the Ron and Amber Zank farm for two years, the Duane and Brenda Boon farm for 11 years and the Benny Heck farm for two years. Then they retired from farming and were hired at Cummins Filtration in Neillsville. Art worked in the press department for about five years before his illness forced him to retire in 2010.

He was a member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation - Black River Falls Chapter. He loved to hunt and fish, camp and gamble, especially the scratch-offs. Most of all, though, Art love spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; five children, Andy (Karen) Berg of Peach Tree City, GA, Tony (Becky) Berg of Neillsville, Travis (Debi) Berg of Neillsville, Joe (Jennifer) Berg of Oshkosh, and Robin (Mary) Berg of Green Bay; 10 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, Iris Edgington and Brooke Edelson. Art is also survived by two brothers, Wayne Berg and Steve Berg, both of Merrillan; two sisters, Susan (Rick) Thomley of Black River Falls and Theresa (Darrell Knox) Berg of Greenwood; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Lorraine; two brothers, David and Ray; and a sister, Peggy.

Funeral services for Art were held at 11 A.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor Jeff Siegel officiated. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the Gesche Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Trout Run Cemetery near Black River Falls at a later date.
