Miller, Alvina (25 DEC 1894 - 6 MAR 1963)

Funeral services for Mrs. Alvina Miller, 68, who died Wednesday, March 6, 1963, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First United Church of Christ, Colby. The Rev. Carl Serr officiated and Miss Eileen Weller was organist and accompanist for Miss Kathleen Baldes, who sang "Be Still My Soul." Interment was made in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Six nephews, Leonard Kademan, Alfred Telford, James Baumgartner, Vernon Baumgartner, Walter Oeldrich and Lester Miller, served as pallbearers.

The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home at Abbotsford until noon, when it was taken to the church.

The former Alvina Neuhaus was born Dec. 25, 1894, in Manitowoc County and was married to Charles Miller, April 7, 1915. The couple operated a farm in the town of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) for a few years, and then near Curtiss where they lived until Mr. Miller's death in February 1943. Mrs. Miller then moved to Abbotsford. Due to ill health, she made her home for the past several months with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Schuette, Abbotsford, where her death occurred shortly after noon on March 6, 1963.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Colby, and of the auxiliary to Knaack-Thompson Post No. 865 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Willard (Alice) Becherer, Colby, and Mrs. Merlin (Florence) Schuette, Abbotsford; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Otto Neuhaus, Cleveland, Ohio; Richard Neuhaus, Genoa City; Paul Neuhaus, Chicago; Hebert Neuhaus, Abbotsford; and William Neuhaus, Colby; and three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Ella) Baumgartner, Colby; Mrs. Edwin (Hulda) Strade, Abbotsford; and Mrs. Amos (Mathilda) Miller, Elkhart Lake.

Three brothers, four sisters and a granddaughter preceded her in death.

Relatives and friends who attended the funeral came from DeKalb, Ill.; Cleveland, Ohio; Elkhart Lake, Genoa City, Plymouth, Sheboygan, Mequon, Eau Claire, Owen, Loyal, Granton, Unity, Spencer, Colby, Curtiss and Abbotsford.
